Gyan Prakash

I am an Associate Professor of Philosophy in the Department of HSS, IIT (ISM), Dhanbad, where I have been teaching since 2014. I received my Ph.D. in Early Buddhist Philosophy from IIT Bombay in 2012, following an M.A. and B.A. in Philosophy from Banaras Hindu University.
My intellectual journey has been shaped by a deep engagement with Indian philosophical traditions, especially those concerning the nature of reality, self, and consciousness. My research spans Metaphysics, Indian Philosophy, and Philosophy of Religion, with a particular focus on early Buddhist thought, Vedanta, and classical Indian approaches to ethics and the mind.
The questions that animate my work include: What is the nature of the self, if it exists at all? How do Indian knowledge systems understand consciousness and mental life? In what ways do these traditions explore the boundaries between self, body, and mind? How do concepts like non-self (anātman), liberation (mokṣa), and embodied experience shape our understanding of human existence?
I am also interested in philosophical practice and counseling, through which I engage with how reflective thinking can bring clarity, guidance, and insight into both personal and professional life.
